Pre-conference Training in GI Endoscopy at High Volume Centers

The IDEN 2019 organizing committee and Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy would like to invite young, enthusiastic endoscopists from all across Asia to apply for the Asian Young Endoscopist Awards (AYEA) 2019 program, which will be held between June 3-16, 2019, in Korea.
The AYEA program is intended to promote technical advancement and collaboration among Asian societies of GI endoscopy. This program has been held annually since 2014, and around 130 young Asian endoscopists have participated so far. The program provides partial financial support to young Asian endoscopists to receive clinical training in GI endoscopy at selected endoscopic training centers in Korea to enable them to acquire and develop new advanced knowledge and technical skills in GI endoscopy. Grants in the amount of around USD 2,000 will be given to each trainee to cover travel expenses to and from Korea as well as for incidental expenses related to training including housing costs.

Purpose

To provide funding for endoscopic training so that endoscopists can acquire new knowledge and technical skills in GI endoscopy, which in turn improve patient care in the applicant’s home region.

Eligibility

Young Asian physicians working in GI endoscopy not residing in Korea under 40 years of age are eligible to apply. All applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English.
(Please note that those who have already participated in the AYEA program may not re-apply)

Benefits
  1. Full travel grant including airfare, accommodation, meals, VISA application and travel insurance (USD 2,000 - 3,000 for 2 weeks)
    * It is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain the visa and travel insurance.

  3. Free registration in the Young Endoscopist Forum and IDEN 2019 on June 13-15, 2019
Duties (Besides Training)
  1. A presentation in English for oral or poster (topics related to GI endoscopy) during the Young Endoscopist Forum
  2. Submission of an abstract for presentation in English by the abstract submission deadline (April 30, 2019)
    → The abstract may be accepted for presentation at both the Young Endoscopist Forum and IDEN 2019
  3. Submission of evaluation sheets after training
  4. IDEN 2019 registration is mandatory, and registration fees will be refunded on site
Guidelines for Application
  1. Applicants should apply to their preferred field of participation; UGI endoscopy, LGI endoscopy, ERCP or EUS.
  2. The Public Affairs Committee will place applicants in selected training centers.
  3. Required documents
    • Application form
    • Curriculum vitae including a recent photo
    • Two letters of recommendation in English: one from your training preceptor/director; and the other from the president of your society of GI endoscopy
    • Lists of published articles written in English (last 5 years)
    • A passport photocopy showing the photograph and identification information
    • [Optional] The results of an English proficiency test: TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, G-TELP, etc.
      (Any kind of internationally recognized English language test score or certificate can be submitted)
  4. Completed applications and all correspondence should be mailed to the IDEN-AYEA 2019 Secretariat address listed below.
Review Process

Awards will be given by the Public Affairs Committee and will be based upon the applicant's credentials and their potential for enhancing the field of GI endoscopy in the applicant's home country. Accepted applicants will receive the confirmation email after March 17, 2019.
